Spoiler Alerts and poorly written but these are my thoughts: I'd give it about a 7.5 to 8.0.  I liked a LOT about it but there were plenty of things I did not like.  And I will cut huuuge slack for such productions routinely. But Robert Downey, Jr. must have cut a mega deal to commandeer as much face time as possible. Unusually heavy on Downey facetime in this movie and I love RDJ but this all felt stretched out and forced. There was also a lot more Pepper but I seemed to tolerate her better. Sure, there needs to be a compelling story but the biggest reason I see an Iron Man movie is for the weapons, the gadgets, the clever deployments, the toe to toe brawls and Stark mental acumen exceeding even armored wizardry. It gets tiresome seeing Iron Man, in various stages of dress, getting clunked around like an awkward, unworthy rag doll, armor malfunctioning all the way and often blowing apart with a single impact.  What exactly was the power limits of the Extremis-infected mercenaries that fought Iron Man? They seem to take all levels of damage, are strong enough to tear Iron Man robot heads clean off and how one destroys them was haphazard and unclear. What the hell kind of powers did the glowing villains have (beyond re-gen) that would paralyze Iron man at a touch. Apparently heat? I thought the armor could translate heat into power? Couldn't IM just bring up a repulsor or Unibeam and blast them the moment they raised a hand?  Aldrich's Extremis sidekick: annoying. Aldrich at the end could have passed for Iron Fist in a few screen shots the way his power built up in his arm and the way he had dragon tattoos. Foreshadowing of things to come? I was okay with the Mandarin twist although I think going with the ten-ringed terror would have been cooler and do-able. Pepper falls through flaming fireballs and repairs and re-emerges - fine - but with clothing intact? How? Happy Hogan's personality seemed to be all new, now an over-eager, obsessive, near bullying security thug.  Oh and there's a kid - I liked the kid! Not sure about the physics of the airplane passenger save but great heroics. When he's calling out good teamwork to everyone - are they able to even here him? Regardless, I cheered and I clapped here and in other places as well, like when the armored cavalry arrived. Why wouldn't Tony Stark's house be a freaking fortress armed to the teeth when his forte is ingenious weaponry. How helpless was Tony and IM in that sequence.  Preposterous. To close out the movie Stark blows up his whole armored inventory? I don't think so.  Loose ends are annoying and in small doses, they are forgiveable. But all of them taken in concert is sloppy and annoying and prevent sthe movie from flexing hard and moving freely. Perhaps a little 3 in 1 oil is in store for Iron Man 4.
