ANGEL-INK to ANGEL INKERS!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 30, 2010, 7:56 AM

As some of you may know, I am publishing a single comic book out of Leading Edge Comics: ANGEL Corps! My second issue released just two weeks ago and, of course, I urge you to check it out! It’s available at IndyPlanet! (See prior journal post for links!) All the work in it was done by myself! From top-to-bottom, from beginning-to-end. The concepts, the scripts, the pencils, the inks, the coloring, the lettering, the dealing with the publisher…everything! While enjoyable, it is slower than I want! Frankly, I want to get some help, especially with the plans I have ahead:

1) I plan to put the ANGEL CORPS title out at least quarterly with an eventual goal to go monthly!

2) I am planning to creating a free (no profits involved here) webcomic intro for the ANGEL Corps characters! It will be ten to sixteen pages long and will feature the title’s marquee characters! It will be given as high a profile as I can provide on my personal website ericlinquist.net with all due credits emblazoned appropriately!

3) I intend to launch a second comic book title featuring a bunch of sexy warrior angel babe characters entitled "When Angels Return: W.A.R.!" Two story threads to that title have been published already in ANGEL CORPS #1 and #2, so it’s on the verge of breaking out already! By the end of the 3rd or 4th issue, that title will be prepped for a separate launch!

4) Finally, I intend to launch another comic book title featuring my original megahuman character: I-Force! It will explain his origins and provide explanations as to how random citizens in my univer—urrr my “angelverse” began developing mega-powers and other superhuman abilities!

Ambitious? Hell, yes! And the truth is, I'm probably a lot like you. I work a full-time job for a living because comics at this level just does not pay much. You may be going to school full-time or holding down a job of your own. Or both, heaven help you! The comic book thing is a sideline for me, but I love it, so I devote my free time to growing it!  With much of the foundation laid out and still unfolding, I need some some willing help!

Can I pay at this moment? Straight up, No. Professionals tell you to stay away from folks like me and I totally get that. But then, they likely work full-time at a graphic arts job and they likely have big-ass marketing machines behind them. With so few issues, I’ve done nothing ballzy yet to market ANGEL CORPS. Nothing beyond my website and DA posts and a couple of trailers and that’s about it really. But with two issues under my belt, and the prospects that I know the future can bring, that’s all about to change. In fact, if I can’t eke out the time to do so, I’ve given serious thought to securing a resource devoted to nothing but marketing and banging the drum for ANGEL CORPS and Leading Edge Comics.

Am I willing to pay out from those infamous back-end profits?

Hell, yeah. I use profit percentages as suggested by comic pros Nat Gertler and Steve Lieber.

Those suggested industry pay-outs break out thusly:
Writer 20%
Penciller 40%
Inker 15%
Colorist 15%
Letterer 5%
Cover Artist 5%

Since I’m doing all the lettering and covers at this time. I’d be willing to slide that 10% to an effective marketer.

So...what’s left?

Finding the help I need. But at this time, all I need is a single kick-ass inker. Beyond that, I’d consider any marketing proposals or business plans.

If you have solid inking talent and are interested in...
...securing a solid comic book experience that can be used as a resume entry to garner the kind of comic book street cred you've always wanted to establish…
...getting your name included on a comic book cover and on an inside page for your creative efforts that you can show to friends and family and prospective employers…
...having your creative bio featured with links you specify on an up and coming website drawing in more viewers every day…
...collaborating effectively with other creative talents to showcase just what you can do to create dynamic, over-the-top graphic images…
…hanging in long enough for titles to secure real back-end profits so you can get ya some…

Well then, you may be right for Leading Edge Comics, a start-up comic book company in the process of building a new world order and well on its way to creating...well...a universe! Note me and point me to samples of your work. My goal will be to get your name published on and in a comic book that sells off of a website that also sells nearly 10,000 other independent titles! I'd also be willing to kick back the same percentage of profits on posters and graphics sold at conventions. It's likely that I won't be able to do all this overnight but I sure as hell will try! I'm not Marvel, I'm not DC, I'm not Image. I'm the little guy. The Indy guy. An army of one. And you can be two! Let’s do this!

Well, I believe I have some inking talent. Inking experience on the other hand... not really .

If it is okay though. I would like to try something to ink that you could send me, to see how I hold up to others at this point. I have a couple inked pictures in my gallery you could also take a look at.

I'm working on yours now. I plan to have it finished by Tuesday, but please don't be surprised if it's delayed (I take awhile with my inked pictures). I'll let you know when it's finished! ;)

Would you consider inking this piece? [link] When you download it, it's at a pretty high res and has fairly tight pencils. If so, good luck man!

I notice you have a question mark there, Gary. Did you need a less detailed piece like a single figure or something? If so, let me know and I'll scan in something for ya....
